The Vintage V440AQ Historic belongs to the same special series as the V660AQ or V880AQ, but differs fundamentally in its construction: instead of a dreadnought or parlor, it is designed as an Orchestra Model (OM) – more compact, more waisted, and significantly more focused in sound. While the V660AQ impresses with bass volume and loudness, the V440AQ emphasizes individual note separation and upper mids. The tone is articulate, direct, clean, and versatile – ideal for blues, ragtime, and pure fingerstyle.
Here, too, the bridge is placed further away from the soundhole due to the design. In combination with the OM body, the guitar reacts lightning-fast to the lightest finger touch – a high attack dynamic rarely found in production guitars in this price range. The artificially aged, open-pore satin finish (AQ) and the ivory binding complete the harmonious pre-war overall picture. The instrument is in excellent condition – practically like new, with no significant signs of play.
Material and Construction
- Top – Solid Spruce: Balanced, dynamic tone with quick response. Solid tops gain maturity and complexity with intensive playing.
- Back & Sides – Mahogany: Warmth and mids in the foreground – in combination with the OM body, a focused, direct sound without exaggerated bass dominance is created.
- Shifted Bridge Position: As with the V660AQ, the bridge is placed further from the soundhole – with the smaller OM body, this noticeably increases the attack dynamics and articulation.
- Fretboard & Bridge – Lignum Rosa: Durable composite wood as a sustainable alternative to rosewood – tonally neutral, proven in terms of playability.
