Recording King ROS-16 (2011)

The Recording King ROS-16 from the Century Series is a 12-fret 000-guitar, whose design is based on historical construction plans from 1902. Slotted headstock, vintage V-neck profile, herringbone purfling, ivoroid binding, and a pyramid-style bridge: all features usually found on expensive boutique guitars or true vintage instruments. The model is no longer regularly produced and is considered a real insider tip.
Particularly noteworthy is the nut width of 46 mm in combination with the pronounced vintage V-neck profile – it feels almost like a mix of a classical guitar and a vintage western guitar, offering plenty of space for complex fingerpicking, ragtime, and thumb-over playing.
Material and Construction
- Top – solid AA Sitka Spruce with Scalloped-X-Bracing: for maximum resonance – earthy, open sound with strongly present mids and surprisingly much punch in the bass.
- Back & Sides – Mahogany: warmth and mids in the foreground – in combination with the solid AA top, an authentic pre-war sound character is created.
- Neck – Mahogany, Vintage V-profile, 46 mm nut width: ideal for fingerpickers who need plenty of space between the strings. A bit getting used to, but perfect for the right player.
- Headstock – Slotted Headstock: classic open headstock with Grover Butterbean tuners – visually consistent with the pre-war style.
- Details – Herringbone Purfling & Ivoroid Binding: pre-war aesthetic, rarely found in this price range.
