The Lowden S-32 12-Fret combines a Sitka spruce top with East Indian rosewood back and sides. This handcrafted 12-fret western guitar from Northern Ireland offers fine tonal colors, a wide dynamic range, and a pleasantly comfortable playing feel.
Sound and Playability
Warmth, tonal depth, and round highs define the character of the S-32. Its sound is soft and relaxed without losing liveliness or dynamics. In addition, its pronounced projection and natural balance suit both nuanced fingerpicking and strumming.
For those working with attack and tonal colors, there is plenty of room here for subtle nuances. Quietly played melodies and gentle accompaniment are just as much part of its range as fuller chords played with a pick.
Materials and Construction
The S-32 adopts the standard body shape of the Lowden S models. At the neck joint at the 12th fret, the scale length remains unchanged compared to the corresponding 14-fret version. This moves the bridge further toward the center of the lower body area.
The neck is constructed in five pieces. This provides exceptional stability and is standard for Lowden (except for the F-10/12).
Lowden's proven A-Frame bracing remains in the basic construction but is modified in the area between the bridge plate and the endpin. Subtle changes to the body geometry and profile also serve to reduce tension in the area of the body back.
The S-32 is made in Northern Ireland. The combination of Sitka spruce, East Indian rosewood, and carefully tuned construction results in a warm, full sound with nuanced responsiveness.
