Lowden Guitars

Lowden is one of the most distinctive voices in acoustic guitar making. George Lowden has developed a tonal language that consciously sets itself apart from classic American models. Handcrafted in Northern Ireland, these instruments are particularly closely associated with fingerstyle and open tunings.

Typical of Lowden is an overtone-rich, spacious sound with long sustain. Individual notes remain clearly discernible while blending into a dense overall sound. This makes the instruments particularly interesting for players who work with dynamics, tonal colors, and the resonance of open strings.

An important part of this construction is the careful tuning of the soundboard and bracing. George Lowden’s characteristically shaped "Dolphin" bracing epitomizes this approach: it is not just the choice of tonewoods, but their interaction with the design that defines the instrument. The understated design, featuring wood details instead of flashy ornamentation, is also part of the brand’s signature.

At 12Fret Guitars, the Lowden WL-34 12-fret model complements our selection of 12-fret acoustic guitars. By appointment, you are welcome to discover it in our Hamburg showroom at your leisure and compare it with other instruments.
