Larrivée P-03 Special (2009)

The Larrivée P-03 Special "Val di Fiemme" is an extremely rare limited-edition parlor guitar from the Larrivée Guitars workshop – handcrafted in North America, with a soundboard wood that holds legendary status in the guitar world. The Val di Fiemme spruce comes from the Fiemme Valley Alps in northern Italy, the same forest from which Antonio Stradivari sourced the wood for his world-famous violins. Compared to standard Sitka spruce, it offers significantly higher stiffness at a lower weight – the result is an extremely fast response, brilliant overtones, and exceptional projection and dynamics for a parlor guitar.
The Special Edition features go beyond the normal 03 series: maple binding, a more elaborate herringbone rosette, and a headstock with rosewood veneer add visual accents. Comes in the original case.

Materials and Construction

• Top – Solid Val di Fiemme Spruce (Italian Alpine Spruce): The Stradivari wood of the guitar world – extremely stiff, lightweight, fast responding. Delivers a mature, "woody" and almost orchestral tone that particularly shines in complex fingerstyle and blues.
• Back & Sides – Solid Mahogany: Warm mids and lows – in combination with the Alpine spruce, this creates a balanced, characterful sound with plenty of sustain.
• Parlor Body, 12-Fret: Ultra-compact design with neck joint at the 12th fret – the low-set bridge combined with the resonant top gives the guitar surprisingly much volume and projection despite its small dimensions.
• Short Scale Length 610 mm (24″): Compared to standard dreadnought guitars (650 mm), the strings are under significantly less tension – the guitar feels softer to play. Together with the nut width of 44.5 mm, this creates the perfect balance for fingerstyle: plenty of space at the nut, short reaches for wide chord grips. Light (012–053) or medium strings (013–056) are recommended.
• Special Edition Details: Maple binding, herringbone rosette, rosewood headstock veneer – visually and haptically on a different level than the standard 03 series.
